Additional Symbian Information

Manually install Mimer SQL Mobile on the P800/UIQ handset

If your handset is connected during the installation process, and the Data Suite P800 has been previously installed, the Mimer SQL Mobile installation will attempt to install the database executables on the handset. If this fails, maybe because the device wasn't connected or maybe because you preferred to install it later, this has to be done manually. You may also choose to reinstall Mimer SQL Mobile in which case a new installation attempt will be made.

The Mimer SQL Mobile Symbian server is shipped in the file MimerSQLSymbianArm.SIS which is placed in the desktop installation directory. Installing it can either be done by double clicking on the MimerSQLSymbianArm.SIS file in the Windows Explorer, or transferring the file onto the handset and choosing Install in the main application menu.

Manually install Mimer SQL Mobile on the Series 60 handset

The Mimer SQL Mobile Symbian server for Series 60 based phone is shipped in the file s60mimer.sis which is located in the Mimer SQL Mobile desktop installation directory. Installing it can either be done by running the Nokia PC Suite and selecting the s60mimer.sis file, or by transferring the file to the phone and then install on the phone.

Manually installing the Mimer MIDP-driver into J2ME Wireless Toolkit

The Mimer MIDP driver (MIDJDBC2.JAR) is placed in the Mimer SQL Mobile installation directory. If the Sun J2ME Wireless Toolkit is installed before Mimer SQL Mobile, the MIDP driver will be automatically installed in the Wireless Toolkit file tree. If the J2ME Wireless Toolkit isn't installed, or the installation process was interrupted, you may need to install the MIDP driver manually. You may also choose to reinstall Mimer SQL Mobile in which case a new installation attempt will be made.

The MIDP driver is installed simply by copying the MIDJDBC2.JAR file from the Mimer SQL Mobile installation directory to the {wtklib}\apps\lib directory where {wtklib} is the installation directory of the J2ME Wireless Toolkit.

Manually installing the Mimer SQL Mobile emulation support into the Symbian emulator (P800/UIQ)

Support for running a Mimer SQL Mobile server in the Symbian emulator is located in the installation file MimerSQLSymbianWinscw.SIS. It can be found in the desktop installation directory. Copy this file into the emulator root, normally %EPOC_ROOT%\epoc32\winscw\c and select the Install choice of the main application menu.

Importing databases from a Symbian environment

Importing databases from a Symbian device or Symbian emulator to a local database on a desktop computer must be done by hand. Database files are usually placed on \system\data\Mimer and must be moved to the Mimer database home directory on the desktop computer. On a device, QFileMan is an external tool available for download from the Symbian web site (http://www.symbian.com) can be used to navigate the file system on the phone.

You can move the database files to the Media files folders with QFileMan or a similar tool on the phone and then use the phones PC client utilities to move the database files to the desktop computer.
