Export to Handheld Wizard - Introduction

This Wizard is part of the Mimer SQL Mobile product.

The Export to Handheld Wizard is used to prepare Mimer databank files for deployment on a handheld device. The actual deployment may be automatically performed by the wizard, or it may be performed manually by the user at a later time. This wizard can automatically deploy databank files to Windows Pocket PC, Smartphone 2003, Symbian UIQ and Symbian Series 60 devices. It is also possible to deploy the databanks in an emulator environment.

An export for a Pocket PC or Smartphone target will copy the databanks to a remote database that must have been defined when the wizard is invoked. The definition is made using the Mimer Administrator

An export for a Symbian UIQ target will copy the database to the device, and optionally create a Symbian installation package (a SIS-file) on the desktop computer, which may be used to deploy the database at a later time.

An export for a Symbian Series 60 target will create a Symbian installation package, which may be installed at once or manually at later time.

The Export Wizard can be started from the Mimer Administrator program by right-clicking on a local or remote database, and selecting the menu-option Export to handheld/emulation from the popup-menu. The Export Wizard can also be executed by running the pdacopyw program (see section Export Command Line Arguments).

The wizard can also be invoked when a definition of a remote Pocket PC database (protocol rapi) is saved by the Mimer Administrator. The system checks if the databases exists, and then asks the user to run the wizard when no database files are found.

To learn more about the emulators see section Handheld emulators.
