Mimer SQL 10 now available!
Categories: Download, Product News

2009-02-10 -- Mimer SQL version 10.0 is now available. This new major version of the Mimer SQL database management system includes many new features and the already high performance and ease-of-use have been improved even further.
Some of the highlights of Mimer SQL 10.0 are the immediate restart and the extended database cache size. With the immediate restart, a Mimer SQL database server is fully operational in sub second time even when restarted after a system failure that may force a full database check to occur.
With Mimer SQL 10.0 it is possible to utilize the extended memory (RAM) available in 64 bits operating systems. This means that the Mimer SQL database caches (bufferpool and SQLpool) now can be extended to up to 16 Gigabytes each. Mimer SQL 10.0 is also the first Mimer SQL version available for 64-bit Windows (XP and Vista).
Another new feature in Mimer SQL 10.0 is the database replication. This new functionality makes it possible to synchronize the content between different Mimer SQL databases. This can either be made with one-time synchronization of the database content, or with an on-line tool that automatically replicates all changes in one database to one or more subscriber databases. It is also possible to synchronize and replicate only parts of a Mimer SQL database. For further details, please see the article The concept of the Mimer SQL Replication.
The file size management function in Mimer SQL 10.0 makes it possible to define the maximum and minimum allowed file sizes for each file in the database (databank). It is also possible to define a goal size for each file. This means for example that the Mimer SQL database server automatically trims down the file size to the goal size after database deletes. Support for read-only databanks has also been added to Mimer SQL 10.0, making it possible to store parts of the database on ROM or CD storage.
For embedded and mobile environments with limited RAM resources it is now possible to use a dynamic database cache (bufferpool). With this feature, the cache is dynamically expanded when the Mimer SQL 10.0 database server is busy and there is free RAM available, while the database cache is reduced to a minimum when the database server is idle and the RAM is needed by other applications. The expansion and reduction of the database cache is totally transparent for application developers and end users.
Built in collations for Assamese, Dzongkha, Nepali, Sanskrit, Tibetan, and Yiddish have been added to Mimer SQL 10.0.
There are several performance improvements in the new Mimer SQL version including I/O reduction and optimization for like pattern searches that corresponds to ‘begins with’.
